Meads, more than the first fermented alcohol in the human history!

Meads history
According to historical records, Mead has been the earliest fermented alcoholic drink in the human history, even more ancient than beer or red wine!
It was said that Mead first appeared in the Stone Age, around 14 millions years ago:

  • Mead is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey with yeast. It is not a beer, wine, or spirit in the normal sense; it is its own class of alcohol.
  • The oldest mead recorded camefrom China, 7000 to 9000 years ago. Mead history is long and covers all continents of the world, spreading?from many lands and civilizations in China, Africa, Europe, and North America, and enjoyed by?warriors,?poets, princes and royal families, mead was possibly the world’s most favorite drink.

“Honeymoon”- this world famous word derived from Meads!

The word “honeymoon” is believed to be derived from the ancient European custom of having newly-weds drink mead (honey wine) for a whole moon (month) in order to increase their fertility and therefore their chances of a happy and fulfilled marriage.

Mead: The Mascot for “Eternal Love”!

In the western world, it is still a popular way to send Meads as wedding gifts,or for visiting couples, since this deliciously sweet alcoholic drink is a symbol for “Eternal Love”!

Mead: The truly natural alcoholic drink without additives!
Ingredients are as simple as these only:
Water, Pure honey, Yeasts existing in the air

  • Honey itself is a natural preservative. It’s the high concentration of sugar in honey forces the water out of any yeast or bacteria cells that?destroys those cells by drying them up. Because of the high sugar concentration, pure honey will never ferment or go bad.
  • Concentration of sugar in honey when mixed with water will be lowered, thus allowing the yeasts in the air to revive and ferment the honey, produces the drink called “Mead.” Alcohol contents of meads vary usually from 7% to 15%.
  • Normally, meads do not need the addition of any preservatives such as Sulphur Dioxide or Formaldehyde (frequent intakes maydamage liver, kidney and nervous systems) like other wines.
  • Meadscan be served at all seasons, tastes will be even more delicious when served chilled or warm.

The Healthy Sweetness of Mead

  • Mead’s sugar from Honey only
Mead is made from Honey, and Honey is made mostly of sugar, but it’s only about 30 percent glucose and less than 40 percent fructose which are Monosaccharides. Monosaccharides can more easily be absorbed by our digestive systems and will not be accumulated or transformed to become fats.s in the air to revive and ferment the honey, produces the drink called “Mead.” Alcohol contents of meads vary usually from 7% to 15%.
  • Honey- Natural Energy Source
Honey contains natural sugars (80 %), water (18?%), and minerals, vitamins, pollen and protein (2 %), and has been called “the perfect running fuel.” Hence though honey is sweet and Mead is therefore mostly sweet, the sweetness is not bad!
  • Sugar makes you happy
Sugar?increases endorphins that can boost mood and thus boost “Happiness!”

Additional outstanding properties of Mead

  • Mead is not only good for us, but good for the planet too. Its production doesn’t require the cultivation of any land, minimizing its environmental impact.
  • By drinking mead we support beekeepers who are valiantly trying to keep a threatened honeybee population alive. We desperately need honeybees to sustain our agriculture- one-third of all the food we eat requires pollination by bees.
  • Mead does not contain the histamines and other compounds contained in grapes which cause allergic reactions in some people, or aggrevate conditions such as arthritis. People who drink Mead may avoid these problems.

Among many kinds of alcoholic drinks and wines, rarely we can find ones that may be comparable to Meads’ health properties! The outstanding health values of Meads derive from their main ingredients- Honeys that produce Meads:

  • Honey is a good antioxidant and help strengthen immune system. Chrysin, a flavonoid found in abundance in honey, has the ability to inhibit the proliferation of and induce apoptosis (cell death) in cancer cells.
Chrysin has also been shown to suppress neuro-inflammation, which suggests it may be a protective agent for a group of neurodegenerative diseases caused by inflammation.
  • Consumption of natural honey reduces cardiovascular risk factors.
  • Honey is one of nature’s best skincares and beauty treatment that can keep skin young and healthy. Its anti-bacterial anti-fungal qualities are particularly useful for the skin. Not only can be moisturizing and nourishing, honey can help prevent problems like pimples, and alleviate dryness and inflammation helping to combat eczema and psoriasis.
  • Honey can help to keep digestive tract working properly due to its antimicrobial
properties. This helps to keep the bad bacteria under control while allowing the healthy bacteria to flourish.
  • Honey can be a health aid for sleepless nights since it can cause a rise in insulin and
release serotonin — a neurotransmitter that improves mood and happiness. The body
converts serotonin into melatonin, a chemical compound that regulates the length and the quality of sleep.
